Owlies are 4 months

So far, they've been developing great, they're really good. First time birds, they're very docile. They're also inquisitive, they will follow you around the yard. If you are the one that they imprinted on, they come when called, they seem to sense what you're trying to accomplish when moving them around back into the co-op or out of the co-op, they just have that extra little tidbit of sense for the humans, they have been great in the yard. I've had no close calls with any Hawks, yet they go right to bed, they don't Dilly, dally, they stay as a group.  Their health seems to be good. They definitely love to free range.

That is one thing they do not mind staying in the co-op, but you can tell it does stress them out because they are a free range type of breed. But for what I've done, you know, on days where I've had to keep them in their tiny co-op for bad whether or whatever was going on, you know, they definitely were happy to finally get out, but I have not seen any destructive behaviors such as pecking or feather pooling or injuries from trying to get out some chickens will do that.  They'll pick on each other when they are stressed. But so far this group is good. Level headed and interesting.

Owlbeards

Had a series of unfortunate events with free-ranging my chickens, the predators just got too smart and then coupled up with some life changes. I have not had chickens for the past year.. but after a visit from a neighboring flock, my heart has made me aware of this love still exists and I decided to begin again. And I picked another heritage rare breed to start. These are very interesting cause. There supposed to be cold hardy. Which I enjoy because it's less work in winter. Plus the beard is so cute.

First week thoughts.

Very hardy breed. They are very active. And do not need heat lamp ( temps are around 85 with high humidty) ofc im waking up several times a night to ensure their comfort level as the temps naturally dip.

Enclosure. I needed to expand my indoor run. Bought about 200 feet worth of galvanized hardware cloth. With my family's help, we have about 4th of the way done.

Coloration. Yes they are from a black and lemon flock so the variety is wide. And always will be. Found a check list online for them and have done some assessment. I think i have one homogenous pure lemon male.

Thanks for checking in. SOF.
