Hatch 2020a

The hatch on Thursday are super healthy .
We have 7 out of 7 that hatched.  Four are mottled and 3 are chipmunk.

The blue dilution gene is definitely coming out on the chick down of the mottle. Instead of all black on their face we are seeing dark Brown. Also the tips of the pin feathers on the mottle chicks are white.

Wanted to add onto this post and explain why the chicks have two distinct down phenotypes at birth. From the photo below you see brown chick with striping down its back and a black down.
Basically it is dependent on the E locus.
The brown is called a 'chipmuck' stripe pattern and is based on the wild type e+. The black and white chicks have E, and causes primarly black down. Those chicks also have a patterm gene called Mottle or Mo. The absence of this gene is not needed to claim but can be distinguished with mo+.
