Who in the chicken world is getting up to a $500,000,000 bailout?

according to Al  Jazzera,

"The hardest-hit states, all of which have declared states of emergency, are Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin. About 11 percent of the nation’s egg-laying hens have been slaughtered out of fear that they might be infected."

 But the places are 'horrendous' where the chickens have lived prior to their destruction. They are becoming immunocompromised, naturally unresistant to the simplest bacterias! And so what do these huge companies do to combat it? Over medicate and supplement.

 Why should we compensate companies who excessively breed, and jam pack these wonderful living beings into unsanitary conditions! Declaring a state of emergency will not make these farmers, business owners or the lobbyists attached to the industry slow down one bit.

I think its about time we start looking local for an answer. I have 11 beautiful hens, all ages from 3 years to 3 months in my flock. And i plan to keep it that way. Old wiser gals teaching the younger women the in's and out's of the yard, the weather, the owls and foxes, my schedule...

There is no need from me to ever buy eggs from a retailer no matter the discount. During this brutal winter when my hens all seemed to pause for a month, I just had to forgo the egg portion of my diet. No qualms or quandarys here! We are all in this seasonal world together.
